It’s a cold day in February but we feel immediately warmed up as we squeeze through a happy crowd: hundreds of Golden Retrievers and their owners parade through the quiet mountain town of Golden, Colorado for the annual Goldens in Golden event. Set up as a fundraiser for furry friends, the event is an irresistible attraction for locals and visitors alike, and it’s not exclusive to the breed; all leashed, trained, and friendly dogs are welcome!

I can’t believe it’s been five years already since we packed up our house in Tennessee, loaded up our dogs, and embarked on an epic one-year RV trip.
And, as epic trips do, this one changed our lives and proved to be a great teacher.

Living in the Rockies is amazing. However, every year I get the siren call of the sea and for that I need to leave Colorado. This year we headed to the East Coast and took a familiar drive to the beaches of South Carolina. From our former home state of Tennessee, Charleston, Folly Beach, and Isle of Palms were a short and scenic six-hour car ride away. We flew into Knoxville, then after a short reunion with good friends, we hopped in a rental car and headed out.
